Hi Torrey,
While my comment was an attempt at humor, I wasn't trying to make light of
the tape/raid system. That is certainly worth the cost for larger
productions such as those that might include the RED camera.
My initial post was in response to a previous thread regarding AVCHD as
captured with consumer/pro-sumer cameras for smaller productions.
It's always nice to have the cool gear if your budget allows.

The fixed cost on that is $1.41 per Gb for 7.2 Tb.

If you need to scale that up beyond that, the cost per Gb stays the
same.

With a tape system, there is a higher cost up front at about $2.50 per
Gb for 4.0 Tb of tapes.

However, prices drop like a rock as you aggregate more data:
8 Tb: $1.36 per Gb
12 Tb: $.98 per Gb
16 Tb: $.84 per Gb
20 Tb: $.67 per Gb
24 Tb: $.59 per Gb
The economy of tape-based storage makes huge sense as you scale up. We
are seeing many Tb of storage being backed up on a RED feature that is
shooting now in the Sacramento area.
