From macfilmmakers@lists.macfilmmakers.com Fri Jan 15 23:34:25 2010 From: macfilmmakers@lists.macfilmmakers.com (Windsor Smith) Date: Fri, 15 Jan 2010 15:34:25 -0800 Subject: [mfm-list]FCC gives 5 months notice to users of 700 MHz-band wireless mics Message-ID: <990FE887-54EB-407D-9CB3-5BD8CEFA7D34@mindspring.com> If you, like me, still have a wireless microphone that operates in the 700 MHz band (formerly UHF TV channels 52-69) then you'll be interested to know that one of the biggest new owners of that frequency range, Verizon, plans to start using it later this year. Parts of that band will also be used for public safety transmissions, if they're not already. (The 700 MHz band was auctioned off in 2008.) The FCC issued an order today (Jan. 15, 2010) giving us until June 12, 2010 to switch to different frequencies. FCC chair Julius Genachowski promises "a major consumer outreach program, including a consumer- friendly Commission webpage on wireless microphones" to build awareness of the transition and the June 12 deadline. (Officially we were supposed to stop using the 700 MHz band last year, and I imagine some parts of the band are already in use by the new owners, but there was a lot of confusion and uncertainty around this issue so I guess the FCC backed off on heavy-handed enforcement for a while... maybe because a lot of churches use such microphones, and I'm sure the FCC doesn't want to appear to be bullying them.) If you bought a new wireless microphone in the last year or two then you probably don't have to worry because most manufacturers have already stopped selling models that use the 700 MHz band. But if it's older then check the FCC's list at http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/wirelessmicrophones/manufacturers.html , or check the specifications in the microphone's documentation, or contact the manufacturer. -- Windsor Smith References: http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-01-15/broadway-must-vacate-airwaves-to-make-room-for-verizon-at-t.html http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-295737A1.pdf http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/wirelessmicrophones/ http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/wirelessmicrophones/manufacturers.html From macfilmmakers@lists.macfilmmakers.com Sat Jan 16 08:03:38 2010 From: macfilmmakers@lists.macfilmmakers.com (Emerging Artist Productions) Date: Sat, 16 Jan 2010 00:03:38 -0800 Subject: [mfm-list]Looking for editor support for children's tv show. I have taken over production of a local children's show called Veronica's Blog at the very last minute (let's just say that episode one is almost finished and we began work on the sets just last week). That said, we are locked in to produced 12 more episodes and I am looking for someone to work with multi-camera clips and assist us in producing a rough cut each week. Currently we are working with the HVX200 cameras (P2 format - 720 24pn) but starting on episode 4 we will be shooting on the RED One or 5D Mark II DSLRs. This will be a credited assistant editor position, IMDB and end title credit with pay TBD. We have three sets built already, plan on a few more and have a cast of twenty great kids for this educational, Disney-channel style 3 camera sitcom. Did I mention it will be playing on the CW44 channel, here in the Bay Area. Our new studio is in downtown San Jose and we are hoping for a guru who can take the organized clips, (we have a data manager on set logging everything, getting them in decent shape) from a cloned hard drive on Sunday evening and return a rough cut of the program within a reasonable time, possible as early as Tuesday morning. We know it can be done, but no question you have to be fast. If anyone on the MacFilmmaker's group might be interested or knows someone who is, please have them reach out to me at the email address below, with rates and availability.
